about Us
Nigel Montgomery has a background of over 23 years experience of
the IT industry in roles from a Helpdesk Technician all the way up
to the Group IT Director for the UK's largest Book Publisher.
During that time, he has amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge of companies of all sizes and market sectors and the ways in which those companies can use Information and Communication Technologies both tactically to keep the day-to-day business running and also strategically to try to gain competitive advantage.
He introduced systems such as the first large-scale Business Intelligence implementation within the UK's Book Distribution market (using Cognos series 7 toolsets on which he is fully trained) which became a significant competitive advantage for that distributor. He also introduced Web-based Report Delivery systems to the same company which also became a competitive advantage in terms of speed of delivery and usability of information while also providing the distributor with a tactical advantage in terms of reducing their printing and report handling costs.
Over this time, he has also delivered numerous projects of all scales from small tactical projects such as deployment of Blackberry devices within a business through to large, £1million+ projects such as the complete desktop refresh of a company of over 600 employees on multiple sites including Microsoft Windows and Office upgrades and conversion of the network from Windows NT/POP3 mail to Windows 2003/Microsoft Exchange.
Book Industry Specific Notes
Book Publishing and Distribution are both complex areas in markets which are currently going through a significant period of consolidation and changes of business model. The increasing prevalence of digital media is causing Publishers to rethink their production methods, channels to market and, indeed, their whole approach to the Publishing Supply Chain. Similarly Book Distributors are faced with the challenges of the shift from physical books to electronic/digital supply encompassing both audio (CD's and downloads) and ebooks while also meeting the demands of an increasingly consolidated retail market.
In both areas, the need for flexible, efficient and scalable IT systems to support your business processes now and in the future is paramount. Much of Nigel's 23 year experience has been in and around the Publishing Industry and as such he is fully capable of supporting and advising Publishers through this major period of change.
